Steering / Suspension Actuator Circuit Fault
Fault in an electronically controlled damping or steering actuator. Ride height or steering assist may be stuck at a default.
Severity guidance: Medium — drivability or emissions affected, book it in this week
Symptoms you will notice
- Harsh or soft ride
- Ride height incorrect
- Steering assist inconsistent
- Suspension warning lamp
Common causes
Ordered from most to least likely — start at the top.
- 1 Failed actuator or damper solenoid
- 2 Open wiring
- 3 Corroded connector at the strut
- 4 Control module fault
How to diagnose it
Cheapest and least invasive first — most of these codes are not a parts problem.
- ✓ Identify which corner the code points to and check that connector first.
- ✓ Command the actuator with a scan tool and listen for operation.
- ✓ Measure resistance across the actuator coil.
- ✓ Inspect for water ingress at the strut-top connector.
Repair options
- Replace the actuator or damper
- Repair the wiring
- Replace the control module if needed
C0300 — frequently asked questions
Can I drive with a failed damper actuator? +
Yes, but handling degrades. On adaptive systems the default is usually firm, which is safe but uncomfortable.
Do I need to recalibrate afterwards? +
On height-adjustable systems, yes — run the level calibration after fitting.
