Cabin Temperature Sensor Circuit
The in-car temperature sensor used by automatic climate control is out of range, so the system cannot regulate cabin temperature accurately.
Severity guidance: Low — usually no drivability impact, fix at the next service
Symptoms you will notice
- Cabin too hot or too cold
- Climate control fan speed incorrect
- Automatic mode ineffective
Common causes
Ordered from most to least likely — start at the top.
- 1 Failed sensor
- 2 Blocked aspirator tube or grille
- 3 Disconnected hose on aspirated types
- 4 Wiring fault
How to diagnose it
Cheapest and least invasive first — most of these codes are not a parts problem.
- ✓ Check the small grille near the steering column or dash for blockage.
- ✓ On aspirated systems, confirm the sampling hose is connected at both ends.
- ✓ Compare the sensor reading with a thermometer next to it.
Repair options
- Replace the cabin sensor
- Clear the blockage or reconnect the aspirator hose
B0160 — frequently asked questions
Why does the fan run constantly on full? +
If the ECU believes the cabin is far from target it commands maximum output. A dead sensor is the usual cause.
Can I clean the sensor? +
You can clean the grille, but do not spray cleaners into the sensor itself.
