Engine Overheat Condition
Coolant temperature exceeded the protective threshold. The ECU often cuts fuel or disables cylinders to protect the engine — take this seriously.
Indication de gravité : Élevée — arrêtez de rouler et diagnostiquez maintenant ; risque de dommages supplémentaires
Symptômes que vous remarquerez
- Temperature gauge in the red
- Steam from the bonnet
- Loss of power
- Coolant loss with no visible leak
Causes fréquentes
Classées du plus au moins probable — commencez en haut.
- 1 Low coolant
- 2 Failed thermostat stuck closed
- 3 Cooling fan not running
- 4 Water pump failure
- 5 Blocked radiator or head gasket failure
Comment le diagnostiquer
Le moins cher et le moins invasif d'abord — la plupart de ces codes ne sont pas un problème de pièces.
- ✓ Stop the engine and let it cool before opening anything.
- ✓ Check coolant level and look for external leaks.
- ✓ Verify the fan runs when commanded by the scan tool.
- ✓ Pressure-test the cooling system and test for combustion gas in the coolant (head gasket).
Options de réparation
- Repair the leak and refill
- Replace the thermostat, pump or fan assembly
- Head gasket repair if combustion gas is present
P0217 — questions fréquentes
Can I top it up and keep going? +
Only to reach a workshop. Find why it overheated first — otherwise the next overheat is usually terminal.
Is a head gasket likely? +
If coolant disappears with no external leak and you smell sweet exhaust, yes. Do a block test before any major repair.
