C0035 C0xxx · Chassis (C) High severity

Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

No usable signal from the left front wheel speed sensor. ABS and stability control are disabled as soon as one wheel is unknown.

Severity guidance: High — stop driving and diagnose now; risk of further damage

Symptoms you will notice

  • ABS lamp on
  • ABS not functioning
  • Speedometer may drop out
  • Traction/ESP lamp on

Common causes

Ordered from most to least likely — start at the top.

  1. 1 Failed wheel speed sensor
  2. 2 Damaged or corroded tone ring
  3. 3 Broken wiring near the strut (flex point)
  4. 4 Debris or rust buildup on the sensor face

How to diagnose it

Cheapest and least invasive first — most of these codes are not a parts problem.

  1. ✓ Compare all four wheel speeds in live data while rolling slowly — the faulty wheel reads zero or drops out.
  2. ✓ Inspect the sensor wiring where it flexes with suspension travel.
  3. ✓ Check the tone ring for cracks, rust or missing teeth.
  4. ✓ Scope the sensor output while spinning the wheel by hand.

Repair options

  • Replace the wheel speed sensor
  • Repair the wiring
  • Replace the tone ring or hub assembly

C0035 — frequently asked questions

Is the car safe to drive? +

Brakes still work, but ABS and stability control do not. Drive carefully and repair promptly.

Why does it only fail at low speed? +

Inductive sensors produce a weak signal at low speed; a marginal sensor drops out first when parking.
