B0001 B0xxx · Body (B) High severity
Driver Frontal Stage 1 Deployment Control
A fault in the driver's frontal airbag first-stage deployment loop. This is a safety system — the airbag will not fire correctly until it is repaired.
Severity guidance: High — stop driving and diagnose now; risk of further damage
Symptoms you will notice
- Airbag warning lamp on
- Possibly no horn or steering-wheel buttons
- Airbag disabled
Common causes
Ordered from most to least likely — start at the top.
- 1 Open or high resistance in the squib circuit
- 2 Faulty clock spring under the steering wheel
- 3 Damaged connector under the seat or column
- 4 Failed airbag control module
How to diagnose it
Cheapest and least invasive first — most of these codes are not a parts problem.
- ✓ Do not probe airbag circuits with a test lamp — use a load resistor and follow the manufacturer's safety procedure.
- ✓ Read the airbag ECU for the specific loop resistance fault.
- ✓ Inspect the clock spring first; it is the highest-failure item in this circuit.
- ✓ Check connectors under the dash for loose or pushed pins.
Repair options
- Replace the clock spring
- Repair the squib wiring or connector
- Replace the airbag module only after circuit checks
B0001 — frequently asked questions
Is the airbag live while I test? +
Disconnect the battery and wait the manufacturer-specified time (usually 10–15 minutes) before touching any yellow connector.
Can I clear the code and ignore it? +
No. The restraint system will not deploy as designed, and the lamp will return immediately.
