Intake Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 1)
The ECU commands the variable valve timing solenoid on the intake cam but sees no electrical response — open circuit, short, or a dead solenoid. On most engines this freezes cam timing at the default position.

Síntomas que notará
- Rough idle
- Loss of low-end torque
- Check-engine light
- Worse fuel economy
Causas habituales
Ordenadas de más a menos probable: empiece por arriba.
- 1 Failed VVT solenoid (most common — coil open or mechanically stuck)
- 2 Damaged wiring or corroded connector at the solenoid
- 3 Low or degraded engine oil — VVT is oil-actuated and sludged oil jams the actuator
- 4 Blown fuse feeding the solenoid circuit
- 5 Faulty ECU driver (rare, check last)
Cómo diagnosticarlo
Primero lo más barato y menos invasivo: la mayoría de estos códigos no son un problema de piezas.
- ✓ Read freeze-frame data: note RPM, oil temperature and whether it sets at idle or under load.
- ✓ Check oil level and condition first — a VVT system cannot work with wrong or sludged oil.
- ✓ Unplug the solenoid and measure resistance across the two pins; compare with the service manual (typically 6–12 Ω).
- ✓ Back-probe the harness side with the key on to confirm supply voltage and the ECU's switched earth.
- ✓ Command the solenoid with a bidirectional scan tool and listen / watch actual cam angle respond.
Opciones de reparación
- Replace the VVT solenoid and re-seal the connector
- Repair the wiring or clean the corroded pins
- Oil and filter change, then re-evaluate before replacing hardware
P0010 — preguntas frecuentes
Can I keep driving with P0010? +
Usually yes for a short distance, but the engine will run with fixed cam timing — expect poor economy and sluggish response. Fix it before a long trip.
Is it always the solenoid? +
No. Roughly half the cases we see trace back to oil quality or a wiring fault, not the solenoid itself.
