P0234 P0xxx · Propulsión (P) Gravedad alta

Turbocharger / Supercharger Overboost Condition

Actual boost pressure exceeds the commanded target. Common on electronically controlled wastegates and variable-geometry turbos with sticking mechanisms.

Indicación de gravedad: Alta: detenga el vehículo y diagnostique ahora; riesgo de mayores daños

Síntomas que notará

  • Limp mode / reduced power
  • Audible flutter or whistle
  • Possible knocking under load
  • Black smoke on diesels

Causas habituales

Ordenadas de más a menos probable: empiece por arriba.

  1. 1 Sticking wastegate actuator or VNT vanes
  2. 2 Faulty boost control solenoid
  3. 3 Split or blocked vacuum/boost reference hose
  4. 4 Incorrect tune or aftermarket boost controller
  5. 5 Faulty MAP/boost sensor over-reading

Cómo diagnosticarlo

Primero lo más barato y menos invasivo: la mayoría de estos códigos no son un problema de piezas.

  1. ✓ Log commanded vs actual boost across a full-throttle pull in a safe, legal environment.
  2. ✓ Inspect all vacuum and boost reference hoses.
  3. ✓ Move the wastegate linkage by hand to check for sticking.
  4. ✓ Test the boost control solenoid with a bidirectional output test.
  5. ✓ Verify the MAP sensor against a known pressure source.

Opciones de reparación

  • Free and lubricate or replace the wastegate/VNT mechanism
  • Replace the boost control solenoid
  • Repair reference hoses
  • Correct the tune

P0234 — preguntas frecuentes

Is overboost dangerous? +

Yes — sustained overboost raises cylinder pressure and can cause knock, broken ring lands or head gasket failure.

Why does it only happen in cold weather? +

Dense cold air makes boost targets easier to exceed, and actuators stiffen — a combination that exposes marginal hardware.
